La Manga del Mar Menor is a strip of land with white sand beaches, 21km. in length and average width of 300m The strip separates the Mediterranean Sea from the Mar Menor (the Minor Sea), which is a lagoon that  has a surface area of 170km sq, and a maximum depth of 8m, and is considered to be the World's largest swimming pool, due to its calm and warm waters which are rich in salts and iodine, and maintain a terperature that is never lower than 18 degrees.
 
Climate and Nature
This natural environment, enjoys an excellent climate through out the year, with more than 300 days of sunshine each year and an average Winter temperature of 17degrees and Summer 26degrees.  It is for this conditions that it always seems like Summer.
 
You can observe flamingos and other migrating birds in the Las Salinas Nature Park, to the north of La Manga, and in Calblanque Nature Reserve to the south.  Cabo de Palos-Islas Hormigas can be found the greenest sea beds of the Mediterranean coastline, a paradise for the underwater enthusiasts.
 
Nautical Sports
Thanks to the geographic conditions and the climate, La Manga del Mar Menor is probably the best place in the world for the practice of nautical sports.

Muds and curative waters
The Mar Menor is a lake with a very high level of salt.  The characteristics of the water is conditioned by the extreme heat, the wind and above all its connection to the Mediterranean through the fishing canals.  The ionic concentrations of magnesium, calcium, sodium, iodine and fluoride are much higher than the amounts found in the Mediterranean.  It has been proved that thermal treatments with this type of salt water has an osmotic effect on the interstitial tissue of the human body, and increases the activity of the blood circulation.  As a result toxins are eliminated and the bodies muscles relax, very good for sufferers of arthritis, rheumatism, tendonitis, nervous diseases and all types of pathologies related to the articlations.
